This week, we are exploring Camp Hope’s second mantra: Stay Together. In an earlier conversation with Camp Director Taylor Rolt, she explained that this mantra can be lived out at camp in simple but meaningful ways. For example, when one camper uses a wheelchair, everyone in their group uses the ramp to move from one activity to the next, not just the camper in the wheelchair.
It’s fun to see how these mantras are lived out among counselors too. Taylor spoke about a time when the Camp Hope staff were walking together. Some wanted to go one way and a few chose another. Before the group split up, one person said, “Hey guys we need to stick together, remember?”
It might be easier to go our separate ways, but staying together is vital for both children and adults. When we stay together, we’re better able to give and receive help to each other. Also, the journey is always more meaningful when we share it with others.
Let’s watch a video from parent Meg Yancey and see how the Yancey family is preparing for one of their family members to attend Camp Hope for the first time, and how they live out the mantra “Stay Together” at their home.
