John has been a full time Director of Christian Education and Youth Director since 1991, serving Main Street United Methodist Church in Waynesboro and Asbury United Methodist Church in Harrisonburg before moving to Westminster in the fall of 2013. He was certified in Youth Ministry in 2004 after completing coursework at Wesley Seminary in Washington, DC. He later served for many years on the Board of Certification for the UMC Virginia Conference. John brings a love of drama and theater to his role as Christian Educator, and over the years has formed church drama teams, directed numerous plays and musicals, and taught workshops on church drama around the Shenandoah Valley. Originally from Richmond, he grew up in Westminster Presbyterian Church on Monument Avenue.

 

John has a BS from Mary Washington College (now university) where he met his wife, Bettie. They have two children, Mattie and Sam. John is an avid reader, record collector, amateur birder and a huge baseball fan. He and Bettie are also part of the long time local a cappella group, Sound Direction.
