Meet Our Interim Pastor

Kelly Kaufman

The Reverend Kelly Kaufman began her work in ministry in 2001 serving Westminster as the Director of Christian Education. She is a graduate of Mary Baldwin College, now Mary Baldwin University, and has a Master of Divinity from Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary. After leaving Westminster and before ordination, she served two churches, one as the Director for Christian Education and one as the Director for Youth Ministry.

Ordained in 2008, she has served several churches and ministry organizations in Virginia.  Kelly has served River Road Presbyterian Church in Richmond, Virginia as the Associate Pastor for  Christian Education. Leaving River Road led to a season of Pulpit Supply and Youth Retreat  leadership in the Presbytery of the James and the Presbytery of the Peaks. A long-term supply  position became an opportunity to serve Jamestown Presbyterian Church (in Rice, Virginia) as their  solo pastor. This was a unique and very small church. She left Jamestown after her son was born  and took time to enjoy a season of being a stay-at-home mom. During this time, she served on the  Board of Trustees at Massanetta Springs, continued to provide Pulpit Supply around the Presbyteries of James and Peaks, and provided leadership at many Presbyterian Women gatherings and events.

After moving to Charlottesville, Virginia in 2014, Kelly accepted the position to become the Interim Program Director at Massanetta Springs and led the conference ministry leadership for a year and a half. While at Massanetta it was good to reconnect with so many Westminster and Shenandoah  Presbytery friends from the early 2000’s.

Hoping to ease back into stay-at-home mom mode after leaving Massanetta, Kelly took on a  small role doing contract work with GenOn Ministries. Her work included networking with churches,  church leaders, and conference leadership. Surprisingly, she then had the opportunity to take on a  small part-time position at the church the Kaufman family had been attending, Olivet Presbyterian in  Charlottesville, Virginia, as the Parish Associate for Children and Families. She has remained in this  position since August of 2017.

Kelly and her husband Evan reside in Charlottesville, Virginia. Evan is an optometrist in the Department of Ophthalmology at UVA. They have two children. Calvin (not named for John Calvin but we love

the humor of it!!) is 10 years old. He loves LEGOS, the Periodic Table, and math. Maggie, 5 years old, loves playing in the sand, My Little Pony, and art projects. In whatever time she has left Kelly enjoys reading, trying new recipes, and watching cooking competitions, which leads to finding ways to meet celebrity chefs! Kelly and Evan

consider themselves amateur “foodies” and (before kids and Covid) love to try new restaurants and go on food tours.
